Abstract
Even though, in the last 30 years we witnessed an increasing advance of the
information Technology, that drove many scientists and researchers to believe
that paper as a medium could be completely replaced with digital surrogates,
many studies demonstrated how this technology survived more than 2000 years of
development and it is still heavily used in many modern settings.
IPaper is a framework for the rapid development of Interactive Paper
applications developed at ETH that exploits the advantages of both paper and
digital documents integrating thus the two media. PaperPoint, a paper-based
presentation system, and PaperProof, a paper-digital proof-editing tool, will be
presented as case studies to get an insight into the iPaper architecture and
explain how the integration of physical and digital documents can be achieved,
supporting the interaction across the paper-digital divide.
