Abstract
Asynchronicity is a fact of life in distributed systems and is becoming more
important in the web services world as web services mature. It can be dealt with
at either the API or service level - this presentation covers both sides of the
equation. It further offers strategies for implementing clients that can work
with this kind of service. It looks at how the client needs to manage message
correlation in different deployment scenarios and what needs to be considered.
The session also covers how to go about implementing an asynchronous service on
the Java platform, how to deal with managing the complex issue of process
management within the server when processing the response and introduces a
survey of existing solutions and proposes a POJO-based model that could be added
to the JAX-WS standard to make developing asynchronous services as painless as
possible. To get the most out of this session, attendees should have an
understanding of web services and JAX-WS.
