Bela Ban
Lead JGroups / manager clustering team, JBoss / Red Hat
Completed his PhD at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. After some time at IBM Research, he did a post-doc at Cornell University. Then he worked on NMS/EMS for Fujitsu Network Communications in San Jose, California. In 2003, he joined JBoss to work full-time on open source. Bela manages the Clustering Team at JBoss and created and leads the JGroups project. Bela's interests include network protocols, performance, group communication, trail running, biking and beerathlon. When not hacking code he spends time with his family.

Christof Dornbierer

Christof Dornbierer is the CTO of Zurich-based AdNovum Informatik AG. He graduated in Computer Science from the ETH Zurich in 2004 and started working for AdNovum Informatik AG as a software engineer. Mr Dornbierer was appointed Head of Middleware Product Engineering at the end of 2005. At the same time, he assumed responsibility for consulting mandates and projects in the areas of security, single sign-on (SSO), and identity management (IDM). Since August 2008 he has been the technical leader of the AdNovum group and member of the executive board. In this function, Christof Dornbierer plays a decisive role in defining and governing the AdNovum technology strategy and the AdNovum software engineering process.

Peter Gassmann

Peter Gassmann is working at AdNovum Informatik AG in Switzerland. As a long-time Java and Identity architect, he joined AdNovum in summer 2010. Before that, he had worked at Sun Microsystems, for 10 years, first in the Sun Java Center, helping customers successfully use Java technology. Then, besides working with Java technologies and the NetBeans development environment, he also got involved in Identity Management, selling and working with Sun's Identity, Role and Access Management products. Before joining Sun, Peter worked in the insurance industry. Peter graduated from FH Brugg-Windisch in ComputerScience.

Martin Kernland is a senior software architect at mimacom, a company specialized in Enterprise Java and open source technologies, especially ICEFaces, Liferay and the Spring Framework, and successfully applying agile methods based on SCRUM.
Prior to mimacom, Martin was Head of R&D, Architect and Senior Engineer at Whitestein Technologies, and before that he was developing an industry-grade JMS messaging server at Softwired inc. Martin holds a master degree in computer science and economics from the University of Zurich. He is married and the father of two girls.

Micha Kiener*

Micha is responsible for Research and Innovation at mimacom, a company specialized in Java and open source technology applying agile methods based on SCRUM. He is initiator of the open source framework edoras and participated in the development of ICEfaces, an Ajax-framework based on JSF.
After his diploma thesis in artificial intelligence, he focused on Java, especially in light-weight, model- and process-driven architecture, framework developing and agile methodologies.

Dr. Karim Riad MAZOUNI joined OCTO Technology in October 2008 to start and lead OCTO's Swiss subsidiary in Lausanne. OCTO Technology is a 10-year old French company focused on consulting for software architecture and agile development methodologies. Before OCTO, Karim spent 8 years at Sun Microsystems as a Senior Software Architect and team leader. Before Sun, Karim spent 2 years (1998-2000) at UBS AG IT System Engineering division in Zurich working as a technical IT architect on various projects involving distributed object technology (CORBA, EJB, IBM Component Broker). From 1991 to 1997, Karim worked as a teaching & research assistant in the IT department of EPFL in Lausanne and focused his research work on the design & implementation of reliable distributed object-based systems. Karim got his Ph.D from EPFL (1996), his Master's from Univ. of Paris (1990) and his Engineering Degree from Univ. of Algiers (1988), all three in Computer Science.

Bruno Schaeffer is a cofounder and fellow of Canoo, a Basel, Switzerland based company specialized in Java consulting and services. He has been a Java developer, consultant, and architect since the early days of Java. Among others, his work areas have been building several Web application platforms for the financial industry, portal server infrastructure, Webenabling of host applications, and Rich Internet Applications. He also teaches a course in object-oriented software engineering at the University of Zurich. Prior to that, he worked as an IT researcher and manager in the financial industry. Bruno holds a Master's in Computer Science from the University of Linz and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Zurich.

He holds a diploma in Mathematics and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Zurich.

Michael Stal, Principal Engineer, Siemens, and Professor at the University of GroningenMichael Stal is a Principal Engineer at Siemens Corporate and Technologies. He has been Head of IT & Operations at Derivative Partners Research AG, since 2009.

Jürg Wanner is co-founder and managing partner of Pyx Engineering AG. He received a Master of Science degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zürich where he studied physics and computer science. From 1985 to 1991 he worked for a large copier and printer manufacturer where he designed and developed document processing software. After that he joined a leading financial institution where he worked in system engineering. Since founding Pyx Engineering in 1999 he has worked as an architect, consultant and engineer for various companies, mainly financial institutions. Among others, he has worked in the following fields: mobile devices, development and large scale application deployment. With more than 20 years' experience in software design and development he has been working with Java since its inception.
