Program Committee

The central purpose of JAZOON is to promote the exchange of knowledge and experience across borders. The JAZOON Program Committee was created to ensure that participants can learn all there is to learn about the latest trends about the Modern Art of Software from the best qualified speakers around the world. The Committee is composed of leading figures within the community and talented experts, who identify the trends and topics currently driving the software world and whose responsibility it is to engage speakers who have something substantial to say about the issues.

	Ognen Ivanovski (Chair) Senior Software Engineer, Netcetera Ognen is a senior software engineer and architect at Netcetera. His experience ranges from development of business-critical enterprise projects through process control, technical lead, coaching and architecture. Areas of expertise include real-time market data delivery / technical analysis, content management systems, acquiring systems for credit and debit cards, and transport schedule delivery. Since 2008 he has been responsible for mobile platforms and technologies within Netcetera.
	Corsin Decurtins* (Co-Chair) Senior Software Engineer, Netcetera Corsin is a senior software engineer and IT architect at Netcetera. His projects at Netcetera include the development of platform architecture and business-critical transaction systems. He is involved in various customer projects and supports clients with his architecture and engineering know-how. Corsin studied computer science and worked as a research assistant at ETH Zurich.
	Jutta Eckstein Jutta is an independent coach, consultant and trainer from Braunschweig, Germany. Her know-how in agile processes is based on over ten years experience in developing object-oriented applications. She has helped many teams and organizations all over the world to make the transition to an agile approach. She has unique experience in applying agile processes within medium-sized to large distributed mission-critical projects. This is also the topic of her books 'Agile Software Development in the Large' and 'Agile Software Development with Distributed Teams'. She is a member of AgileAlliance and a member of the program committee of many different European and American conferences in the area of agile development, object-orientation and patterns.

	Bela Ban Lead JGroups / manager clustering team, JBoss / Red Hat Completed his PhD at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. After some time at IBM Research, he did a post-doc at Cornell University. Then he worked on NMS/EMS for Fujitsu Network Communications in San Jose, California. In 2003, he joined JBoss to work full-time on open source. Bela manages the Clustering Team at JBoss and created and leads the JGroups project. Bela's interests include network protocols, performance, group communication, trail running, biking and beerathlon. When not hacking code he spends time with his family.
	Robert Brazile Oracle USA
	Christof Dornbierer CTO, AdNovum Informatik AG Christof Dornbierer is the CTO of Zurich-based AdNovum Informatik AG. He graduated in Computer Science from the ETH Zurich in 2004 and started working for AdNovum Informatik AG as a software engineer. Mr Dornbierer was appointed Head of Middleware Product Engineering at the end of 2005. At the same time, he assumed responsibility for consulting mandates and projects in the areas of security, single sign-on (SSO), and identity management (IDM). Since August 2008 he has been the technical leader of the AdNovum group and member of the executive board. In this function, Christof Dornbierer plays a decisive role in defining and governing the AdNovum technology strategy and the AdNovum software engineering process.

	Peter Gassmann Technical Project Lead & Senior IT Consultant, AdNovum Informatik AG Peter Gassmann is working at AdNovum Informatik AG in Switzerland. As a long-time Java and Identity architect, he joined AdNovum in summer 2010. Before that, he had worked at Sun Microsystems, for 10 years, first in the Sun Java Center, helping customers successfully use Java technology. Then, besides working with Java technologies and the NetBeans development environment, he also got involved in Identity Management, selling and working with Sun's Identity, Role and Access Management products. Before joining Sun, Peter worked in the insurance industry. Peter graduated from FH Brugg-Windisch in ComputerScience.
	Martin E. Kernland* Senior Architect at mimacom ag Martin Kernland is a senior software architect at mimacom, a company specialized in Enterprise Java and open source technologies, especially ICEFaces, Liferay and the Spring Framework, and successfully applying agile methods based on SCRUM. Prior to mimacom, Martin was Head of R&D, Architect and Senior Engineer at Whitestein Technologies, and before that he was developing an industry-grade JMS messaging server at Softwired inc. Martin holds a master degree in computer science and economics from the University of Zurich. He is married and the father of two girls.
	Micha Kiener* Head of Research & Innovation, CTO Mimacom AG Micha is responsible for Research and Innovation at mimacom, a company specialized in Java and open source technology applying agile methods based on SCRUM. He is initiator of the open source framework edoras and participated in the development of ICEfaces, an Ajax-framework based on JSF. After his diploma thesis in artificial intelligence, he focused on Java, especially in light-weight, model- and process-driven architecture, framework developing and agile methodologies.
	Dierk Koenig Canoo Engineering AG, Switzerland
	Nemanja Kostic Solution Architect, Zurich Financial Services Nemanja Kostic has a decade of commercial experience with JEE software architecture, engineering, business and technical analysis, design, integration, development and deployment of distributed, desktop and Internet applications. He is currently architecting and leading the development of a global underwriting solution for Zurich insurance company. He holds a Master's Degree in Software Systems from Belgrade University and is a co-founder of Serbian JUG JavaSvet.
	Jakob Magun* Managing Partner, mp technology consulting Jakob Magun is Managing Partner at mp technology consulting. He has a degree in Computer Science from ETH Zürich and over the last years has focused on IT Technology and Business Consulting, J2ME Wireless Applications, BlackBerry Software Development, Push E-Mail and RFID Technology. Currently he is engaged in IT Technology evaluation assignments as well as IT Project review and coaching.
	Philippe Marschall MSc CompSci / Senior Software Engineer
	Karim R. Mazouni Managing Director, OCTO Technology (CH) Dr. Karim Riad MAZOUNI joined OCTO Technology in October 2008 to start and lead OCTO's Swiss subsidiary in Lausanne. OCTO Technology is a 10-year old French company focused on consulting for software architecture and agile development methodologies. Before OCTO, Karim spent 8 years at Sun Microsystems as a Senior Software Architect and team leader. Before Sun, Karim spent 2 years (1998-2000) at UBS AG IT System Engineering division in Zurich working as a technical IT architect on various projects involving distributed object technology (CORBA, EJB, IBM Component Broker). From 1991 to 1997, Karim worked as a teaching & research assistant in the IT department of EPFL in Lausanne and focused his research work on the design & implementation of reliable distributed object-based systems. Karim got his Ph.D from EPFL (1996), his Master's from Univ. of Paris (1990) and his Engineering Degree from Univ. of Algiers (1988), all three in Computer Science.
	Dr. Ralph Miarka AT Austria
	Erich Oswald Dr. sc. techn. ETH / Chief Technology Officer, Ergon Informatik AG Erich Oswald is CTO at Ergon Informatik, a Zurich-based software company that specializes in custom software solutions. His duties include coaching and consulting project teams and customers in architecture, design, technology and development process. Erich's interests focus on agile and lean development in the Java universe. He holds a diploma and a PhD in computer science from ETH Zürich.
	Bruno Schäffer Fellow, Canoo Bruno Schaeffer is a cofounder and fellow of Canoo, a Basel, Switzerland based company specialized in Java consulting and services. He has been a Java developer, consultant, and architect since the early days of Java. Among others, his work areas have been building several Web application platforms for the financial industry, portal server infrastructure, Webenabling of host applications, and Rich Internet Applications. He also teaches a course in object-oriented software engineering at the University of Zurich. Prior to that, he worked as an IT researcher and manager in the financial industry. Bruno holds a Master's in Computer Science from the University of Linz and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Zurich.
	Peter Schnorf Director. Head of Platform Architecture and TIS CTO Switzerland, Credit Suisse, IT Technology Infrastructure Services Dr. Peter Schnorf is the head of Platform Architecture in the CTO organization of Credit Suisse's global Infrastructure division. He has held various other positions in Credit Suisse over the last 10 years, beginning as Smalltalk Architect, running a Web/Java Competence Center, and leading Technical Architecture (technology management and standards) for the IT of Private Banking. Prior to that, Peter spent 8 years in the USA, first as a post-doc for Compiler Technology at Stanford University, then as Researcher in Multimedia for Canon, and finally as Media Architect and SW Engineer at Taligent. He holds a diploma in Mathematics and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Zurich.
	Michael Stal Senior Principal Engineer, Siemens Michael Stal, Principal Engineer, Siemens, and Professor at the University of GroningenMichael Stal is a Principal Engineer at Siemens Corporate and Technologies. His main work areas cover Software Architecture, Concurrent and Distributed Systems, as well as Programming Languages & Paradigms. Michael has co-authored a couple of books, most notably volumes 1 and 2 of the Pattern-Oriented-Software-Architecture book series. He got his Ph.D. from the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen which appointed him professor of software engineering. He serves as editor-in-chief of the German magazine JavaSPEKTRUM and also as Microsoft MVP for Visual C#. Michael has written many publications and scientific papers and is speaker at various conferences and events.

	Patrick Walther Dipl. Informatik Ing. ETH, Dipl. Wirtschaftsing. FH, Head IT & Operations Derivative Partners Research AG, Member SI & Java User Group Switzerland Patrick Walther was born in 1971 and grew up in Zurich. He studied computer science at ETH ZH, graduating in 1997. He worked as a Software Developer & Project Manager at Ergon Informatik AG, starting in 1997. From 1997 to 2006 he worked as Head Strategy & Process Management Online Banking Credit Suisse. He has been Head of IT & Operations at Derivative Partners Research AG, since 2009.
	Jürg Wanner Managing Partner, Master of Science ETH, Pyx Engineering AG, Zürich Jürg Wanner is co-founder and managing partner of Pyx Engineering AG. He received a Master of Science degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zürich where he studied physics and computer science. From 1985 to 1991 he worked for a large copier and printer manufacturer where he designed and developed document processing software. After that he joined a leading financial institution where he worked in system engineering. Since founding Pyx Engineering in 1999 he has worked as an architect, consultant and engineer for various companies, mainly financial institutions. Among others, he has worked in the following fields: mobile devices, development and large scale application deployment. With more than 20 years' experience in software design and development he has been working with Java since its inception.
	Stefan Wengi Dipl. Informatik Ing. ETH, Acrea AG, Partner and Co-Founder Stefan Wengi is partner and co-founder at Acrea AG, an independent IT management consulting company based in Zürich, Switzerland. He has extensive experience in software engineering, technical leadership, and in defining business & technology strategies. His expertise includes the areas of IT security, middleware, software engineering, architecture and strategy.Stefan holds degrees in Computer Science and in 'Management, Technology and Economics' both from ETH Zürich. In addition he is a lecturer at a university of applied science in a curriculum on information technology.
