Ghislain Fourny holds a master’s degree in computer science and a doctorate in science from ETH Zürich.
He is currently a software architect at 28msec, a startup based in Palo Alto and Zurich.
His research focuses on federating the various NoSQL and SQL databases and on making databases accessible to
business users, with a focus on data models and declarative querying languages. Ghislain was a member of the
W3C XML Query Working Group — which maintains among others the XQuery specification suite– from 2011 to 2014
and is a co-author of the JSONiq language specification. JSONiq was developed in cooperation with Oracle and EMC
and is supported by several implementations like the open-source Zorba engine and the IBM WebSphere DataPower appliance.
More recently, he co-designed the cell store paradigm, which scales up storing and querying XBRL data.
